To date, the Virgin Islands Medical Institute, Inc., (VIMI), is the only organization in the U.S. Virgin Islands that collects, reviews, and analyzes data on the quality of health services provided to Medicare beneficiaries. There is no other entity in the Territory that is performing similar work in the area of quality health care. During its 35 year history, VIMI has successfully completed contracts focusing on maternal and child health, workman’s compensation, private insurance and indigent populations. VIMI engages in aggressive and effective performance improvement projects that promote the effective, efficient and economical delivery of health care services for the Medicare population. VIMI works with all institutions and providers of health care services as well as with consumer groups, such as the AARP and the Chamber of Commerce, to ensure that the quality efforts involve the beneficiaries of the services.
In 2008 at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) QualityNet Annual Conference, VIMI received the 2008 QIO Quality Champion Award – Honorable Mention - for our performance in the 8SOW.
